Chase Holmes, Staff Accountant
“At Watkins Uiberall, I have grown both professionally and personally.”
Say goodbye to the boring “Nine-to-Five.”
As a staff accountant on the audit team, I get to enjoy a work experience full of variety and excitement through the firm’s on-site client engagements. Getting out of the office and into the client’s is something I look forward to in my daily routine. Watkins Uiberall makes it a priority to provide staff accountants opportunities to interact with clients face-to-face and gain exposure to different types of business models and environments. One week I may be at a manufacturing plant and at a nonprofit organization the next. Like I said, it’s not an ordinary nine-to-five, and that’s the way I like it!
Valuable business experience.
An important part of being a successful accountant is understanding a client’s core business and business in general. During my career at Watkins Uiberall, I have grown by leaps and bounds as a professional just by being exposed to a wealth of business principles, processes and models – both at the firm and through client projects. In addition, the managers and members at the firm are always available to answer questions or give advice. The knowledge and experience I’ve gained, and continue to gain at Watkins Uiberall will stay with me throughout my professional career.
Making a positive difference is important to me.
I chose a career in accounting because of my passion for problem solving. Every day I work to uncover details and investigate causes of error with the goal of solving accounting-related problems on behalf of my clients. Whether it’s discovering a hidden opportunity or mitigating a weakness, I know I’m making a positive difference (and I get paid to do what I love).
There’s more to work than work.
Watkins Uiberall promotes a highly professional, yet friendly atmosphere. Working in a firm with a friendly environment has helped me get to know people and become more familiar with them. Occasionally, I play golf after work with colleagues. This translates into a positive and enjoyable work environment and proves the point that there really is more to work than work.
It’s the little things that really add up.
Watkins Uiberall does many little things to make the day enjoyable for everyone. Whether it’s baked cookies, ice cream Fridays, support for CPA candidates or generous days off, they make the workplace enjoyable. During busy season they occasionally have dinner delivered for us, which I really appreciate.
Chase Holmes joined Watkins Uiberall as an intern in January 2008 and has been with the firm full time since April 2008. Chase is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Accounting.
